Susan Newton was the Chief Engagement Officer for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).
In this role she was responsible for maximizing CUNA’s engagement efforts with member credit unions, state credit union leagues, system partners, and other external organizations. In addition, she had executive responsibility for Credit Union House on Capitol Hill, served as liaison to the National Credit Union Roundtable Advisory Committee, CUNA’s Volunteer Leadership Committee, as well as several other groups. She also represented CUNA on the board of the National Cooperative Business Association (NCBA) and was CUNA’s liaison to credit union system entities such as the World Council of Credit Unions, CUNA Mutual Group, and CO-OP Financial Services, among others.
Upon joining CUNA, her role was significantly focused on the leagues’ collective efforts that were critical to the long-term success of credit unions through the Campaign for Consumer Choice. In addition, she served as the Executive Director of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues for 18 years, providing leadership and executive direction to that association.
Prior to joining CUNA & AACUL in June 1997, Newton was with the Texas Credit Union League for ten years, serving most recently as Senior Vice President – Member Services. In that role, she provided management leadership, direction, and supervision to the trade association services for all credit unions in Texas. Before her tenure at the League, Newton was with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
A native of Batesville, Arkansas, she is an alumnus of the University of Arkansas where she graduated with a degree in Finance and Banking.
